has intensified its campaign of arrests recently which affected many of the
intellectuals and professionals.

Dr. Jalal Nofal (Dr. Jalal Noful ) a Phyciatrist and Human rights activist from Druze DamascusSyria was taken during his work at the Syrian Red Crescent Hospital where he treats traumatized children on April. 22, 2012 when he was arbitrarily detained. There is
a concern about his well being and his ability to negotiate his own release at
this time. Arbitrary detention is illegal according to Article 7 of
the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, endorsed by Syria in 1969 and
1976.

What families can do in behalf of people arrested or detained
The family needs to approach a Red Cross Office and open an allegation of arrest. The ICRC takes up all allegations of arrest that are reported to it with the authorities
inorder to clarify what has happened to the individuals concerned. It endeavors to visit those detained or arrested as quickly as possible in order to ensure that the conditions in which they are being held comply with national and international standards. The information is then reported back to the family.
